Meet Kate Kelsey
My Background
My passion for helping others emerged at a young age, and I was often regarded as an “old soul” in my family growing up. I have always had a curiosity in others’ stories and how to ease suffering and thrive in life. I graduated from SUNY Geneseo where I studied biology, before switching gears and pursuing a career in therapy. I began working in the mental health field in 2003. I received my training in therapy at the University of Colorado Denver where I received my master’s degree. This program is CACREP accredited (what does accreditation mean?) and I received specialized training in couple and family therapy (Learn more about my program).

My Professional Career
Following graduation, I went on to work for many large organizations both private and not-for-profit in many different roles and capacities before transitioning into private practice. I have worked in various levels of care including inpatient hospitals, partial hospitalization and residential programs, outpatient clinics in the community, and university counseling centers (See my LinkedIn profile).
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Certified EMDR therapist. I utilize evidence-based treatments including, but not limited to, ACT, EMDR, PACT, and Gottman Couples Therapy. It is also important to note I use she/her pronouns and I welcome people of all abilities, ethnicities, body shapes and sizes, religious beliefs, races, sexualities, and genders in my practice. I am a professional member of AAMFT and EMDRIA.

The Path Isn’t Always Linear
While my path hasn’t been perfectly linear, it has brought me to the perfect place. I love what I do. Everyone deserves a life full of vitality, and I am humbled and honored time and again by my clients’ courage to pursue theirs. All these experiences have led me to better understand the challenges of transitioning into new roles within your life, the challenges around the transition – as well as the promise of new fresh beginnings.
